WINDSOR FOREST SUBDIVISION

Windsor Forest with its 2,000 plus homesites, was one of Savannah's first "planned" communities.  Developers catered toward young military families offering affordable homes near the Hunter Army/Air Force Base.  Construction began in the 1950's with an emphasis on quality constructed, brick ranches set on substantial lots with a golf course and elementary and high schools built within the neighborhood.

Today Windsor Forest stands strong with an active neighborhood association.  The
Windsor Forest Neighborhoods Association stays focused on the needs and wants of the neighbors. The housing price range for the neigbhorhood begins at approximately $140,000 and crests above $1million for waterfront homes. Set within the neighborhood is the
Windsor Forest Elementary School, Windsor Forest High School and the private school, Savannah Country Day School. Just outside the community is the highly acclaimed, Armstrong Atlantic State University. The community is conveniently situated between Savannah's two shopping malls, near St. Joseph's/Candler Hospital, an abundance of shopping districts, places of worship.

Windsor Forest is also the new home of the recently unveiled Joe Tribble Park, a 51 acre park boasting an 11-acre lake with natural island that is perfect for the bird enthusiasts.

The park is handicapped accessible and features a landscaped entrance with benches, a .568 mile paved  and lighted walking/jogging trail around the lake, which is  stocked with catfish, brim and bass and the occasional beaver, a fishing pier and a large grassy field perfect for a picnic or game of ball.

If you are a boat enthusiast, have no fear!  Windsor Forest is approximately 2 miles from the Coffee Bluff Marina, where you can fill up and take off for a wonderful river cruise or use the public boat ramp at Bell's Landing, which is even closer.

Set in the heart of Windsor Forest, is the LaVida Golf Course and Country Club.  It is a private, members-only golf club featuring very nice greens and 9 holes.
A fitness center, although not affiliated with the golf club,
is also on the premises and available to join.

For the active seniors in and around the neighborhood, stop by the Windsor Forest Community and Golden Age Center, located on the grounds of the Windsor Forest Elementary School
. It is a facility that meets the needs of both Windsor Forest's elementary kids and area senior citizens.

Established as a resource for staff members and families, the $2.2 million center was built with funds that the school raised and money from both the City of Savannah and the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools Board of Education. While the school uses the facility's media center and art and music rooms, "golden agers" use the center for daytime activities like aerobics, cards, tai chi and yoga.

Another fairly new addition to the community is
Woody's Ramps & Rails, one of the few skate parks in the Savannah area.

Windsor Forest lives up to its name with all the mature landscaping and the recent plantings of Oaks along the two main venues, Windsor Road and Largo Drive.
If you are looking to settle down and plant your family's "roots",
Windsor Forest is a wonderful community to consider.
